PROSTHODONTICS

FIXED PROSTHESIS

1. What is a Crown Restoration ?

Crown is the term used for single tooth coverings. If the structure of the tooth is damaged, there is a change in color, its shape or position is distorted, or if it has undergone root canal treatment, a single crown is applied to make it more durable and aesthetic.

2. What is a Bridge Restoration ?

It is a restoration where the missing tooth is connected to the neighboring teeth. With the bridge, the missing tooth is replaced, chewing function is gained and an aesthetic appearance is provided. When making a crown or bridge, there are material alternatives such as metal substructure or zirconium.

REMOVABLE PROSTHESIS

1. Full Denture

In cases where there are no natural teeth left in the mouth, these prostheses, also known as 'denture teeth’ are fabricated. They are made of pink acrylic and supported by the remaining bone tissue and gums in the lower and upper jaw.

2. Partial ( Snap-on or Clasp Retained ) Denture

They are preferred in cases where the number and location of teeth in the mouth are not sufficient for a fixed bridge. They can be easily reattached after being removed and maintained by the patient when necessary. The appearance of a hook (clasp) in the anterior region may cause aesthetic problems. Snap-on dentures do not have clasps. In order to ensure the retention, a female and a male retainer are placed on the teeth and prostheses, and a key-lock system works by interlocking.

3. Maxillofacial Defect Prosthesis

They are produced for patients who experience tissue loss in the jaw and facial areas due to tumor or trauma. The purpose of these prostheses is to reduce problems such as speaking, chewing and swallowing caused by the defect and to improve the aesthetic appearance.

4. Cleft Lip and Palate Prosthesis

Individuals with cleft lip and palate are rehabilitated with fixed and removable prostheses following surgical and orthodontic treatments.
